Learn To Row Camps

Summer is a great time to experience rowing on Lake Monona and Monona Bay. We offer recreational summer programs that provide area youth the chance to learn rowing for the first time or to continue developing their rowing skills. Our camps take a creative approach to the fundamentals of rowing for all experience levels.

Designed with the developing athlete in mind, our camps prioritize fun and time on the water.    Each week will be appropriate for those brand new to rowing, but is designed to also develop returning campers or those with some rowing experience.   Leave the week with a better understanding of rowing, while becoming comfortable and confident. Skill development will focus on the fundamentals of the rowing stroke. Our camps include dry-land training and educational activities geared towards developing the whole athlete. This includes but is not limited to safety, team building, and general fitness.

Our summer camps are geared towards rising 6th through 12th grade athletes. We aim to group our campers with others their age and skill level as well as with their friends.

All camps will be centered around the following:

  • Learning the basics of rowing, while being outside and on calm waters of Monona Bay and Lake Monona.

  • Teamwork: Rowing is the ultimate team sport. Understanding how to work together to achieve one’s goals is key in rowing.

  • Fun!   This camp is focused on learning about the sport, not competition.   Rowing is unique in that many athletes learn to row in Middle, High School and even College, so our Learn to Row Camps are intended to start that process.

  • Accessibility and Equity:  our camps are welcoming to all athletes.   Reach out if you have questions about your specific situation.

The daily schedule will include a warm-up, rowing instruction and practice, an activity focused on team-work, and stretching.

Each year, we update Learn to Row registration information for summer Learn To Row camps on the registration page of our website around February or March.    Offerings remain similar year to year, so even previous season information is a good guideline of what to expect.
